nothing i like more friday - gilmore girls

my favorite tv show of all time is gilmore girls. i love the fast paced dialogue and all the pop culture references. when i get in a grove, my mind works in the same fashion. i would love to be able to vocalize all the pop culture trivia that pops into my head without appearing like a freak that talks to herself in public forums. it would also be nice to have a friend close by that was right there on the same wavelength as well. for now i'll just cherish the times where i felt that way with my sister and wish that she lived closer. i currently own 3 box sets of the 7 season series. my goal is to have all of them to just pop them in the dvd player whenever i need a little stars hollow charm. because i am cautious with my funds, i was sure to purchase the best seasons first. that is why i acquired 2 and 3 simultaneously followed by season 4. why these seasons? well, jess happens in season 2 then he and rory date in season 3. my all time favorite of rory's boyfriends is jess. don't try to convince me otherwise because i am very set in my ways. it just may be his love of books that really won me over. husband's love of books was a turn on initially. and it still is. season 4 follows on the scale of favorites because of the finale - luke and lorilai kiss and kirk runs past them naked because of a night terror. priceless. best scene of the entire series if you ask me. lately i've been watching it a lot. i still think it is a super bummer that the series ended.


p.s. don't fret sister of mine, alias and the oc closely follow in ranking. and we need to get sushi in july.

movie review tuesday - x-men origins: wolverine

film: x-men origins: wolverine
starring: hugh jackman and liev schreiver
synopsis: wolverine lives a mutant life, seeks revenge against victor creed (who will later become sabertooth) for the death of his girlfriend, and ultimately ends up going through the mutant weapon x program.
grade: a+

i am a huge fan of hugh jackman. and i am convinced that aside from husband, wolverine is the manliest of all men. with that put out there in the universe, it should be quite obvious that i loved this movie. the x-men movies have been amazing, and this latest installment did not disappoint. there was action, suspense, mutants, and unadulterated muscle. there were lose ends left to open doors to more movies to come, but i don't think that i really care the origin of many other x-men. jean gray/phoenix is a favorite, but her story played out - beginning to her depressing end in x3. i would love to learn how professor x came to be, but that film may leave much to be desired in terms of action and man flesh. no offense professor x, but physically you have nothing on logan.

p.s. this film was less predictable than the past three, but i still saw the end coming. just saying.

so i think i can dance

but not nearly as well as those chosen to perform on so you think you can dance. as noted in a previous post, i have been watching season 4. well, i finished it and all i can say is wow. just wow. those dancers are a-m-a-z-i-n-g! if it were up to me, mark and chelsie would have won. but! i really think katee and joshua deserved it, too. the final 6 were just so good! maybe they all should have won. yes. no. mark is still my absolute favorite. because i am still replaying the music and dances in my head, i am compelled to post my favorite dances for your viewing enjoyment. just humor me, ok?









i do believe the last one was the best piece with mark in it. and i've watched it about a million times. the creeper look gets me every time!

so you think you can dance

i have been watching old episodes of so you thing you can dance, but since i have never seen them they are new to me. it has been hard for me to watch this show when it is on tv because husband could not care less about it and we usually watch tv together in the evenings. last season (4) had this interesting number that the choreographer described as a tim burton wedding. it was amazing! i love how off kilter it is. the face pulling part remind me of beetlejuice. plus i would not mind dancing in that dress. it was an added bonus because i think that mark and chelsie are a fantastic match up. mark reminds me of adrien brody and that may add to the fact that he is my favorite so far.

and speaking of beetlejuice, i really enjoy the end of that film. not only is there a character named lydia, but she get to dance with football ghosts up in the air. i wouldn't mind getting that sort of reward for getting an a on a math test.

movie review tuesday - benjamin buttons

film: the curious case of benjamin buttons
starring: brad pitt and cate blanchett
synopsis: a man is born old and grows young
grade: b+/a-

oh man. my mind is all sorts of crazy. this movie is strange and amazing on many levels. i thoroughly enjoyed the love story aspect as well as the mind set that "you can be as mad as a mad dog at the way things went. you could swear, curse the fates, but when it comes to the end, you have to let go." on the other hand i thought there were some things that could be done without or been written differently. it pulled on the heart strings at times. to be quite honest, i am still trying to sort everything out in my head. it may take a few days pondering over everything. this is a film you really have to pay attention to and think about. i liked it, but it is not a film for everyone.

edit: i think brad pitt is a great looking man, but wrinkles in copious amounts on his face were not so cute. the whole first half of the movie i hoped he would get younger just a little bit faster. hopefully his real life genes leave him like richard gere so that he gets better with age. just saying.

movie review tuesday - high school musical 3

film: high school musical 3: senior year
starring: zac efron, vanessa hudgens, and ashley tisdale
synopsis: the kids are seniors, putting on a musical about being seniors, and doing all the things seniors do
grade: a+++

i'm not going to lie. i loved this movie! and i own the first one. you can judge me, but there is something magical about high school musical. maybe it is the clothes or maybe its the singing or maybe it is just troy bolton but i was in the best mood after watching it. troy's solo late night at school reminded me a little of footloose and i totally get why all the little teenie boppers have the hots for him. i do, too. anyway, this movie motivates me to get off my duff and do the things i enjoy. i plan to fit some yoga in tomorrow. and break into song while at the grocery store. hopefully baby can fulfill the role of back up dancer. i think he can handle the choreography. zac efron was on snl a few weeks ago and did a sketch about hsm. it is a gem in my mind. enjoy.

movie review tuesday

this week: martian child
starring: john cusack, amanda peet, and joan cusack
synopsis: widower adopts a little boy who says he is from mars
grade: b

i loved the cinematography in this movie! the choice part, in my opinion, was the montage at the bowling ally. loved it this [_________________________] much! it was typical john cusack humor - another thing i love. i cannot get enough of how he is able to say the things he does with a straight face. genius. there were parts in the movie were a little slow, and i was a little concerned the few times john's character had to yell, but on the whole it was a good uplifting film. on a final note, i really enjoyed the music selection. my favorite tune from the soundtrack was "satellite" by guster. enjoy the martian dance. i know i do.

on the town monday

saturday night husband and i made our way over to tempe marketplace to see what it was all about. it was pretty dang exciting. we started by eating at yum! yum! china. i'll let you know all about it on thursday, but i will tell you it was yum! yum! after eating, we watched a blues band perform live in a courtyard. the singer appeared to be in 60/70-ish and very animated. i have to say, he was the most entertaining part of the performance. i about died when he sang the line "my car got reposessed this morning" - it was just so funny. i guess you just had to be there, but this guy knew how to entertain. we sat through a few songs and then decided to browse barnes and nobles. right outside the enterance there was another concert going on with a female artist singing. she had an awesome voice. sorry i don't have anymore info on the performers. i listened intently during the break between songs of the blues band, but they never mentioned their name and i did not attempt at all to catch the girl's name. if these two performances were any indication of what is normally heard while hanging out at tempe marketplace on the weekend then i highly recommend checking it out. i loved that it was an outdoor mall that offers more than just trendy shops. i think we will make our way over there many more times. i just wish i had known in time about the latest x-men movie is premiering at the harkins theatre there. it would have been a dream come true to be at a movie premire with hugh jackman in attendance. yeah - hugh jackman is going to be in tempe! my hometown is just so cool.

movie review tuesday

this week for free redbox monday, bedtime stories was the movie of choice. i did not know what to expect because it was disney movie produced by adam sandler. i loved it! it doesn't take much to get me to watch an adam sandler film, he is another tv boyfriend, but whenever i watch one i think to myself "this is a great movie, but that scene/line was unnecessary." this movie was very true to his style and had all the actors who regularly appear in his films (rob schneider, allen covert, and jonathan loughran) but it did not have all the unnecessary things typical in his other films. it was refreshing. on redbox.com it says this movie got a B+, and i would concur. this one is fun for everybody.
