I caught it. This video was the pusher, because I have a weakness for awkward teen hip hop dancing, especially when paired with Usher and a good beat. And that is only the beginning of a long list of the gems I discovered. But I won't admit that I've watched this video 20+ times the past few days, or that I plan on teaching the Boy some awkward moves tomorrow in a dance party, so don't ask.
How can you not love this kid - he is Canadian!

Neon Trees
I have been listening to Neon Trees a lot lately. My love for them is very similar to the love I have for The Killers. Once upon a time I was mesmerized by Brandon Flowers in guy-liner* in the Mr. Brightside video. Soon after I bought Hot Fuss and proceeded to listen to it about a million times. Habits is the new Hot Fuss for me. And maybe I feel like "My Surrender" channels a little bit of Brandon Flowers. It also helps that Neon Trees hails from Provo, and I feel like we should be friends. Or at least could have been had I made it over to Velour more than once during my days of BYU.
*Sadly, husband will never wear guy-liner.

Meaghan Smith
I stumbled across this video and loved how it was reminiscent of 500 days of summer. Plus this girl's voice is spectacular.
And what do you know, I searched Meaghan Smith and this exact song is on the movie's soundtrack. Well done music video director. You hit it on the nail. I just have to say that that movie is haunting me with it's perfection. Guess I need to watch it again. Oh darn.
P.S. Don't you love how this post became less about the artist and more about the movie? She really has a lovely style. A modern vintage sound, if you will.
P.P.S I hope you have actually watch the movie by now, Heather. Pretty sure you would love it.

Vampire Weekend
I love this video! The cameo of Jake Gyllenhaal is simply genius. The bands not too bad either. A video of a little boy enjoying the song reminded me how great it is. Someday soon I hope to see and hear Baby singing along to some quality songs.

Circlesquare
I know little about this band, but I am in LOVE with this video! It was inspired by Robert Longo's "Men in the Cities" series. Pretty cool, right?

Lykke Li
I recently became aware of this delightful artist. Lykke Li is from Sweden and released her album Youth Novels in 2008. Apparently I had heard her music months ago without paying attention too much. It wasn't until I heard her music while driving in Jen's car and stumbling upon another blog post about her that it all came together for me. A little bit of me died realizing how uneducated I've become in music. I need help.
*Edit* And I've realized that Jen actually posted on this artist before. Apparently I need more than help.

Pomplamoose
First off, I love this girl's voice. Second, I love the personalities of the two band members. There is usually a little segment of silly banter at the end of each video and I think is so fun! Their videos always show all the different instruments they use and how they layer the sound. Maybe it is the orchestra dork/band nerd inside me, but I think that is really cool to watch. Check out all their videos on you tube and maybe order yourself a shirt with essence of Jack.

listen up - pete yorn and scarlett johansson
i had no idea that scarlett johansson sang! she and pete yorn have a duet album coming out in the next few weeks. i am basically sold on her voice. this duo reminds me a lot of she & him (another band you should check out) because it is a actress paired with an established musician, the girl has an old school sound to her voice, and the music is delightful. but! i feel that pete and scarlett (we are totally on a first name basis with each other) have something a little different to offer because there aren't any covers on their album, break up. right now relator is the only track available before the official release, but if it is any indication of how the rest of their music sounds, i am all over that.

listen up - weezer
weezer is amazing. it has been surprising to me how good their songs are because they just get better with time. the blue album was the soundtrack to my summer after graduating from high school and i still cannot get enough of it. i was slightly disappointed by make believe. i heard pork and beans on the radio and thought "this must be an older song that i have overlooked." i later found out that it is a current song and that it is from their latest album. the music video for the song is my favorite right now. so amazing! because it features so many nerdy viral video cameos. they all make me so happy inside. especially "all your pork beans are belong to us!!" i hope you find as much joy in this video as i do. what a gem!

listen up - beirut
i mentioned this one before, and i'll mention it again because of the awesome-ness. beirut is an american band that combines elements of eastern european and folk with western pop music. i am not familiar with anything really other than the song "nantes" but if this song is any thing like they rest of their music then i know it is all quality. take a listen. and remember: the accordians really makes it.

listen up - little boots
there was a request for of my input on music. i was flattered by the comment that i find "interesting cool bands" but unfortunately my savvy in the music department has been lacking lately. i'll do my best to provide quality suggestions. whenever the mood strikes i will let you know about a band or song that i am digging on for the moment. to start our i wanted to share this video of a british techno singer, little boots. before you start gnashing your teeth, just take a listen. i'm not typically a fan of techno anything, but i do like this one. if nothing else, check out the awesome piece of hardware she uses. the tenori-on is super sweet. my brother for sure would love to have one.
