movie review tuesday - favorite chistmas movies

when it comes to christmas movies, only 4 come to mind as ones i really enjoy and could watch over and over again.

film: elf
starring: will ferrell, james caan and bob newhart
synopsis: after inadvertently wreaking havoc on the elf community due to his ungainly size, a man raised as an elf at the north pole is sent to the u.s. in search of his true identity.
grade: b+

this movie is just amazing. when it was first released in theatres, i saw it as my free harkins birthday movie followed by free krispy kreme donuts. that memory alone keeps this movie on the top of my list. i like that even though buddy is grown, he still enjoys the simple things in life like christmas lights and revolving doors. i loved that zooey daschanel's voice was showcased. and i really liked all the silliness at every moment.

film: white chistmas
starring: bing crosby, danny kaye, and rosemary clooney
synopsis: a successful song-and-dance team become romantically involved with a sister act and team up to save the failing vermont inn of their former commanding general.
grade: a-

this movie is a great example of how movies used to be. all the player were multi-talented being able to sing, dance, act, and not feel like they had to be sleezy to be popular. my favorite parts of the movie are: the scene were bing crosby and danny kaye sing "sisters;" the "choreography" dance scene (i loved that they used that song this season in so you think you can dance); and when they all sing "snow" on the train.

film: how the grinch stole christmas
starring: voice of boris karloff
synopsis: a grumpy hermit hatches a plan to steal christmas from the whos of whoville.
grade: a

this movie is perfection. i could not imagine a better rendition of the dr. seuss classic.

film: a christmas story
starring: melinda dillion, darren mcgavin, and peter billingsley
synopsis: ralphie has to convince his parents, teachers, and santa that a red ryder bb gun really is the perfect gift for the 1940's.
grade: b+

i feel like not a chistmas has passed where i have not watched this movie at least 4 times, if not more. there are so many great quotable scenes and delightfully awkward family moments. basically seeing this movie is a major award.

what are your favorite christmas movies?

I love Elf! I'm not the biggest fan of Christmas movies, but man I can watch this movie anytime throughout the year!

I'm going to be sappy and say one of my favorite Christmas movies is "A Wonderful Life". I'm a big Jimmy Stewart fan but I also love the message of the movie.

You forgot Charlie Brown. I'm totally obsessed with that kid (and his friends) right now. Good times...
