Some Family Love

Remember when I mentioned the family reunion that I was the photographer? Well, these are some photos from our formal-ish family group shots.

Mi Familia

The week that I last posted was a crazy one. My grandfather passed away the week before and all my siblings came into town for the funeral. The last time we were all home together was Christmas 2006. My mom wanted to take advantage of this time to take some family pictures (our last successful family photo was about 14 years ago). Taking these photos was a relatively simple task since we did not include any of the (8!) grandchildren. That crazy photo experience may (or may not) happen this summer.

We may just seem like your average run-of-the-mill siblings, but...

we are actually super heroes! Shhh. Don't tell.

P.S. To my family -- Don't try and print from these photos. They are only internet quality.

Pictures of the "Woodsen"

I loved seeing how much this little guy has grown since his newborn shots last year. This family gets lucky with the best lighting whenever I photograph them. Plus they are a good-looking* group, so that helps produce quality pictures as well.

*I think everyone is photogenic, so being a good-looking group is something I feel about every group of people. But if someone throws in a Blue Steel, then they are really really good-looking.

Dexters

Here is a sneak peek on a photo shoot I took a few weeks ago. Out of nowhere I had 5 families call me up for photos. This was the most last minute of the calls, requesting pictures the next day. I really like this family, so I obliged.

Sister's Family

While my sister and her family were here for Christmas and the wedding reception, she asked for some pictures. Due to the level of cooperation, it was a quick session. Apparently getting pictures taken is not as fun as making Perler bead creations. Oh well, I won't take it personally.

This was the highlight of the experience - everybody make a stink face!

Jan's Crew

The week before Christmas, I took family pictures for one of my photography classmates. It was fun to take pictures, unfortunately I was fighting the auto-focus on my lens the whole time. I have plans to work hard core to switch to manual focus, but more on that later.

H Family

It was a treat to photograph this family last week. Baby C was very co-operative for a 6 month old. He stuck out his tongue every time he smiled. It was adorable.

Another W Family

I had the pleasure of taking individual portraits of every member in this family for their Christmas card. Each person decided what their favorite things were and included them in their photograph. I loved this idea and how easily it showcased each personality. This was a really fun photo session.

And of course there had to be one of them all together - goofy faces and all. An honest family portrait if I ever did see one.

The W Family

This was the largest group I've photographed to date. It was fun and a key part of the learning process. I'm trying to strike a balance between casual and formal composition in portraits and finding it a nice little challenge. And I forgot that traffic cones aren't always a good find in photos. My subconscious knows what I like.
