this one was part of the family cookbook i made. i know it is another one with puppy in the name, but maybe my family likes to name food after the thing it resembles. i love this stuff.
puppy chow
during my high school experience, i would make this treat often. my friends and i would deliver puppy chow in various containers (clean paint cans, peanut butter jars, Jones soda bottles, etc) to others for birthdays or just for fun. these deliveries quickly earned the name of “secret missions.” because of the amount that i made during that time, this was served at my wedding.
8 c corn chex
1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips (for a bonus taste, add some butterscotch chips in there as well)
3/4 c peanut butter
1-2 c powder sugar
put chex in a large bowl and set to the side. combine chocolate and peanut butter in a microwave safe bowl and heat in microwave for 1 minute. remove from the microwave and stir. heat for another minute. stir again. pour mixture over chex and stir until every chex is completely covered. get another large bowl with a lid and pour half of the powder sugar in, dump in covered chex, and pour in the remaining powder sugar on top. place lid on the bowl and shake it. when every pice is covered property with powder sugar, feel free to eat.
**update** this treat is ofter refered to as "muddy buddies" but i found someone that refers to it as "trash." still trying to process how i feel about it.
